Tanjong Katong Secondary School, also known as TKSS, was founded in 1956 as a co-educational school under the leadership of Mr. Lee Kip Lee. The school was relocated several times before finally settling at its current location on Haig Road in 1979. The school has a rich history and has undergone many changes over the years, including a merger with Tanjong Rhu Secondary School in 2005.

TKSS has consistently performed well in academic achievements, with a PSLE aggregate score range of 223-244 and an O-Level pass rate of 97.5% in 2021. The school also offers a wide range of CCAs, including sports teams, performing arts groups, and clubs, such as the Robotics Club, National Cadet Corps, and Student Council.

TKSS has achieved many notable accomplishments, including being recognized as a School of Excellence for Character and Citizenship Education in 2018 and winning the National School Games B Division Netball Championship in 2019. The school has also been recognized for its efforts in environmental sustainability, receiving the Lotus Sustained Achievement Award in 2019.

Notable alumni of TKSS include Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister-in-Charge of the Smart Nation Initiative, and Mr. Seah Kian Peng, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and CEO of NTUC FairPrice.
