JC Subject Combinations for NUS Business and NTU Business: What Matters?
TestPapersFree · 2026-10-25 07:21:19
There is no subject combination that makes admission to business automatically easy. A better decision begins with the exact degree you want, its published subject prerequisites and a combination you can sustain. NUS offers Business Administration; NTU’s corresponding degree is called Bachelor of Business.
Check minimum requirements before choosing subjects
The NUS A-Level programme prerequisite table, marked accurate as of December 2025 and checked for this guide on 24 October 2026, lists a pass in H1 Mathematics or O-Level Additional Mathematics for Business Administration. Its Business Analytics and Engineering entries instead list H2 Mathematics or Further Mathematics.
The NTU A-Level subject requirements list, for Business, a pass in H1 Mathematics or O-Level/equivalent Additional Mathematics, together with a good grade in GP/KI. Check the current table and general admission rules for your own application year. A minimum subject requirement is an eligibility condition, not a prediction of an offer.
Do not treat every finance-related degree as the same course
Business, business analytics, computing-related finance, economics and double degrees can have different requirements. A general business prerequisite should not be carried across to a more mathematical programme because both contain the word “business”.
Make a short list with the exact programme name, university, required subjects and intended intake year. Include double degrees separately. If you are unsure which route you want, compare the actual curriculum as well as entry requirements: what would you spend the next few years studying?
If engineering remains a real option, check it separately
H2 Maths can preserve options that a lighter Maths route does not, but Maths alone is not a complete engineering checklist. NTU engineering programmes commonly specify a second H2 science or Computing requirement, with differences between programmes. NUS’s listed general Engineering prerequisite is different. Consult the exact entries instead of assuming the universities are interchangeable.
Do not choose Physics, Chemistry and Maths solely because a forum calls that combination safe. Ask whether the remaining content subject, school offerings and workload also suit your interests and strengths.
Evaluate what you can study well
Ask JC teachers what the first-year content and assessments involve. H2 Economics may be an interesting choice for a student who enjoys economic reasoning, but the cited business entries do not make it a compulsory prerequisite. An interest in business does not require selecting a subject whose workload you have not examined.
Use a taught-topic sample from our H2 Maths papers or H1 Maths papers to discuss the kind of reasoning involved with a teacher. Do not use an unfamiliar final-year paper as a pass/fail test of whether you belong in the subject.
Make a decision you can explain
A sound explanation might be: “These subjects meet the current requirements for my shortlisted courses, retain a realistic alternative and fit how I learn.” Review that shortlist when official requirements for your eventual intake are published. Choose for informed eligibility and strong learning, rather than a supposed admission shortcut.
Question that prompted this guide: what is the best subject combination to be able to get into BBA course in NUS/NTU more easily?. This is an original TestPapersFree response, not a reproduction of forum replies. Prepared 25 October 2026; check the linked official guidance for your child’s cohort.
