H1 Biology Vs H2 Biology in Singapore JCs

By: Praveena, in Category: JC

H1 Biology and H2 Biology are both core subjects in the Junior College (JC) curriculum in Singapore. H2 Biology is a more advanced version of H1 Biology, and covers a wider range of topics and requires a higher level of biological proficiency.

H1 Biology covers the basics of biology, including cell structure and function, genetics, ecology, and human physiology. H1 Biology is suitable for students who want a general understanding of biology but do not intend to pursue a career in a field that requires advanced biology knowledge.

H2 Biology, on the other hand, covers all the topics in H1 Biology in greater depth, and also covers additional topics such as plant physiology, animal behaviour, and microbiology. H2 Biology is recommended for students who intend to pursue a degree in fields such as medicine, biology, or environmental science, as it provides a strong foundation in the advanced biological concepts required for these fields.

The main difference between H1 Biology and H2 Biology is the level of depth and complexity. H2 Biology requires a higher level of biological proficiency, and covers more topics than H1 Biology. H2 Biology is also a more demanding subject, with a greater workload and higher expectations in terms of problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

In terms of university admissions, most university courses require at least H1 Biology, while some courses require H2 Biology. Therefore, it is recommended that students take H2 Biology if they are considering pursuing a degree in a field that requires advanced biology knowledge. However, it is important to note that H1 Biology is still a valuable subject that provides a good foundation in biology, and can be suitable for students who are not planning to pursue a career in a field that requires advanced biology knowledge.
